What MTHFR Means for Fertility
Today I’m welcoming Dr. Rajka Milanovich to the podcast! We’re digging into methylation, MTHFR and your fertility. Dr. Rajka has been practicing medicine for over 20 years. She is certified by the Institute of Functional Medicine in Functional Medicine, The American Board of Family Medicine and The American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine. She is passionate about empowering women to optimal health and in turn having them become ambassadors to empower their families and others. It is her personal mission to spread the word that disease prevention AND cure are possible. She has a particular interest in nutrigenetics although puts the focus on epigenetics first. She herself battled many avoidable symptoms and disease and would like to put an end to this for our future generations. She is a national speaker, wife, mother of 2, and avid yogi who loves the arts and travel. Her private practice, Simply Health Institute, is located outside of Chicago in Naperville, IL. You may have heard about the importance of getting testing for MTHFR if you are trying to conceive...especially if you have experienced miscarriage. It's one of the tests we request for our Blood Chemistry Review. But do you know what it really means? Do you know how to support your methylation pathways? This is a question we get all the time - so I wanted to bring on a Functional Medicine doctor who is an expert with MTHFR.
In this episode you'll learn: 1) The significance of the MTHFR gene mutation for female fertility plus the importance of the male partner being tested too. 2) The difference between homozygous and heterozygous for the MTHFR gene mutation. 3) How methylation impacts estrogen (we want the right balance). Many women have high estrogen (symptoms such as PMS, tender breasts, decreased sex drive, mood swings, headaches) or low estrogen (hot flashes, irregular periods, increase UTI's). 4) How do we support methylation? Lifestyle and supplement recommendations - and why it is important to AVOID synthetic folate (folic acid).
